Trio of flowers on a hedgehog cactus
Brilliant magenta flowers make even the smallest hedgehog cactus hard to miss. These are probably on an Echinocereus fasciculatus, a type of hedgehog cactus that is common in Saguaro National Park near Tucson, Arizona.
Saguaro National Park protects two wilderness areas right outside Tucson. Not surprisingly, the park has lots of saguaro cacti, but also lots of other cacti and wildflowers. Each spring the Sonoran Desert comes alive with color as a mix of flowering plants burst into bloom.
